February at the MIQ: A journey through music, cinema, and art

Visiting Guanajuato means diving into a universe of history, culture, and tradition. This month, one of the top cultural destinations is the Museo Iconográfico del Quijote (MIQ), featuring a lineup of music, film, exhibitions, and workshops for all tastes. From the eerie tales of Edgar Allan Poe to the magic of a string quartet, each event promises a unique experience. Here are February’s must-see events.

Music: Great Talents on Stage

The Patio de las Esculturas will host a special performance by the Concertistas de Bellas Artes String Quartet, in collaboration with the National Coordination of Music and Opera of INBAL.

At Patio Abierto, more live music awaits:

  • Cintia Escamilla (piano solo, Saturday, February 8, 7:00 PM, voluntary donation from $100).
  • Song of Longing, a piano and vocal concert by Margarita Martínez and Everardo Rojas Silva (Saturday, February 15, 7:00 PM, voluntary donation from $100).

Cinema: Edgar Allan Poe Mystery Nights

The MIQ’s Monday Movie Nights present “E.A. Poe Through the Eyes of Vincent Price”, a selection of films inspired by the works of the master of horror, coordinated by Alejandro Montes Santamaría.

  • Tales of Terror (February 10)
  • The Tomb of Ligeia (February 17)
  • An Evening of Edgar Allan Poe (February 24)

All screenings at 7:00 PM | Free entry, limited seating.

Art in the Patio de las Esculturas

On Friday, February 21, at 6:00 PM, the MIQ will inaugurate two must-see exhibitions:

  • Retrospective, by José Escalera.
  • Continent of Light, featuring works by Américo Hernández, Carlos Marmolejo, and Enrico Hernández.

Free entry, limited capacity. Exhibitions remain open until April 20, 2025.

Workshops and Performances at La Manchita

  • Origami and Intro to Japanese (ages 12 and up, Thursdays 5:30-6:30 PM, February 6 – April 10).
  • “Stories That Feel,” a storytelling performance by Lunena (Saturday, February 22, 12:00 PM, free entry, limited capacity).

Literary Encounters

On Wednesday, February 26, at 7:00 PM, the MIQ will host the editorial presentation of Diana Espinoza, as part of the IEEG Editorial Tour (free entry).

At the Eulalio Ferrer Cervantine Library, free workshops continue:

  • Reading and Creation Inspired by Federico García Lorca (Fridays, 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, until May 23).
  • Verse and Its Techniques (Interpretation) (Tuesdays, 1:00 – 3:00 PM, until May 20).
  • Cervantes’ Readers and Readings, led by Alecxaí Yllades de la Fuente (Wednesday, February 12, 4:00 PM).
