León, Guanajuato, March 12, 2025. – The Ministry of Culture of Guanajuato invites the public to the Winners’ Concert of the San Miguel Opera Competition 2025, an event that will bring together outstanding voices of lyrical singing at the Studio Theater of the Roberto Plasencia Saldaña Bicentennial Theater. The performance will take place on Saturday, March 15, at 7:00 PM, in an evening dedicated to opera and zarzuela that promises to captivate music lovers.
The recital, part of the prestigious San Miguel de Allende Singing Competition, will feature an exceptional repertoire spanning from the Baroque to the Romantic period, with works by composers such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Gaetano Donizetti, Giuseppe Verdi, Christoph Willibald Gluck, and Vincenzo Bellini. Highlights include arias like “Voi che sapete” from Le nozze di Figaro, “Una furtiva lagrima” from L’elisir d’amore, and the vibrant toast “Libiamo, ne’ lieti calici” from La traviata.
Emerging Talents Take the Stage
The concert will feature the winners of the 2025 competition: soprano Génesis Moreno, mezzo-soprano Élida Rocha, countertenor Ángel Gómez, and tenor Brandon Castillo, who will showcase their talent and versatility in a program divided into two parts: the first dedicated to opera and the second to zarzuela. Accompanied on piano by maestro Mario Alberto Hernández, the artists will deliver a masterful performance that reflects their training and passion for lyrical singing.
About the Artists
- Génesis Moreno, soprano, has won international competitions and performed roles such as Gilda in Rigoletto and Juliette in Roméo et Juliette.
- Élida Rocha, mezzo-soprano, has excelled in roles like Carmen and Suor Angelica, and has been a soloist in symphonic-choral works such as Carmina Burana.
- Brandon Castillo, tenor, has participated in productions like Parsifal and Aida and continues his training at the Celaya Conservatory of Music.
- Ángel Gómez, countertenor, has performed as a soloist with the Acapulco Philharmonic Orchestra and been a finalist in national competitions.

The San Miguel de Allende Singing Competition is a non-profit initiative aimed at showcasing and supporting young opera singers in Mexico. Over 16 editions, it has established San Miguel de Allende as a key operatic hub in the country, providing professional opportunities for emerging artists.
